What is it?
The Dorico World Cup is an international, interactive short film tournament, created to showcase and introduce audiences to some of the best shorts from around the world, produced over the last three years.
How does it work?
32 short films compete, representing 32 different countries from 6 continents.
We start with the group stage: 8 groups of 4 short films each, with the winner of each group earning a screening at DIFF 2026. Then come the knockout stages: quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final, until one short film is crowned the winner of the tournament.
The audience will vote for the winners of each stage, and decide which short films advance to the next round.
How can you watch the short films and vote for them?
The short films will be temporarily available here in our website.
Each short film will be available for 90 hours, from 6:00 PM on Monday to 12:00 AM on Friday. The dates will depend on the group in which it competes.
The audience will be able to watch the films online and vote directly on the website for their favourite in each group and each knock-out match.
It all starts on October 12th at 6:00 PM, with Groups A and B, so stay tuned!
But is Italy taking part?
NO.
Italy isn’t in. It’s a World Cup, after all, so obviously Italy can’t be there.
(And a good portion of our followers are Italian, so having an Italian short film in the competition would make the tournament somewhat unbalanced, in our opinion.)
How were the participating countries and short films selected?
The Dorico IFF team selected 32 short films that we particularly liked and wanted to show (or show again) to our audience.
If your short film or your country isn’t there, we’re sorry. We didn’t leave you out on purpose. Unfortunately, there were only 32 spots available. We wish we could have featured more.
Maybe next time.
(By the way, you can send your short film to submissions@cortodorico.it and we’ll be happy to watch it)
Is Infantino involved in this too?
NO.
FIFA officials have no idea this is happening and will probably sue us soon, but so be it. Our conscience is clear.
Who put this crazy idea into your heads?
We honestly don’t know.
But we’re doing it anyway, because we believe it’s worth showing our audience amazing short films from all over the world and promoting their filmmakers, who have created incredible works and deserve to be discovered, one by one.
ENJOY THE TOURNAMENT, EVERYONE!
Come funziona?
NO
NO
BUONA VISIONE A TUTTI!
